Formed in 2013 by Benke Ferraz (guitar and vocals), Dinho Almeida (guitar and vocals), Raphael Vaz (bass, moog and vocals) and Ynaiã Benthroldo (drums and vocals), the psychedelic rock band Boogarins is celebrated as one of the most important names in contemporary Brazilian music.
Their debut album, “As Plantas que Curam” (2013), distilled the neo-psychedelic and lo-fi recording wave that won fans worldwide, capturing the zeitgeist of the international music scene. In a 2013 Folha Ilustrada cover story about the release, journalist Lúcio Ribeiro wrote: “Children of a state that breathes sertanejo and of a capital where the less ‘agroboy’ youth drift toward indie rock, Boogarins came to belong to the class of bands that built their name in the international market, like Cansei de Ser Sexy and Sepultura.”
Recorded entirely at home in 2012 and shared online by the band themselves, “As Plantas que Curam” grew organically—taking the group’s music to unexpected places and people—and was discovered (and officially released) by New York label Other Music in October 2013. In 2014, with very few shows in Brazil, the band hit the road for a 100+ date tour across Europe and the United States, playing festivals such as SXSW, Primavera Sound and Les Ardentes.
Beyond laying the groundwork for the next ten years—filled with records like Manual (2015), Lá vem a morte (2017), Sombrou Dúvida (2019) and the compilations Manchaca Vol 1. (2020) and Manchaca Vol 2. (2022)—their songs kept growing across stages, radio and streaming, gaining more fans worldwide and constantly transforming through the inventive, unpredictable live performances that define the band. They have four studio albums and a series of unofficial releases, a Latin Grammy nomination, and shows that have taken them around the world—through festivals like Rock in Rio, Primavera Sound, Coquetel Molotov, Coachella, Lollapalooza and South by Southwest.
In 2024, alongside the release of BACURI, the band presents two different shows in Brazil and North America: “10 anos das Plantas que Curam”, celebrating the first decade of their debut album, and “Boogarins Toca Clube da Esquina”, a set in which they bring the band’s sound to Brazilian music classics from the 1970s. The Circo Voador edition featured Toninho Horta. With songs by Toninho, Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges, Beto Guedes and others, the blend brings fresh life to songs, ideas and dreams that never age.
